Verizon And Google's Android Attack The iPhone

Verizon has released a new ad attacking the iPhone, and promoting its soon to be released Android-based phone.
As cheery pop music plays in the background, the screen ticks off all the things the iPhone can't do, no physical keyboard, no widgets, no 5 megapixel camera, etc. (see video below.) Once it's finished ticking off that list, it says Everything iDon't, Droid Does. These are much more interesting than those irksome, "there's a map" advertisments. But as clever as they appear, we can't help thinking of Roger McNamee when he was first showing off the Pre.

He too ticked off all the features it had than an iPhone didn't have. It looked awesome, and for a brief moment we believed the iPhone had a rival in waiting. That didn't work out so well.

Maybe that's an unfair comparison for Android. The Pre is just one phone on one carrier. Adroid, is about to "explode" in the words of Eric Schmidt. It will be on 12 phones, with 32 carriers in 26 countries. With that kind of reach, developers will step up and create a robust series of applications for Android.

There's many reasons the iPhone is a hit, but one of the biggest is the 85,000 applications available for download. A solid device on the nation's biggest carrier will generate all sorts of new Android users, prompting developers to create new applications.

Mark Webber wins German Formula 1 Grand Prix

Australian Mark Webber has broken through for his maiden Grand Prix victory at the Nurburgring track in Germany in an action-packed race, beating Red Bull team mate Sebastian Vettel by over nine seconds.

The long-pilloried journeyman Webber survived a collision with Lewis Hamilton at the start, losing his lead from pole position on the first corner to Reubens Barrichello, and a drivethrough penalty during the race to salute the checkered flag and let out an almighty scream of joy through the team audio system which was picked up by race broadcasters.

Webber was beaten to the first corner by Barrichello after winning his first ever pole position yesterday, and had to endure a bump by Hamilton of the McLaren team - though Hamilton came off the worse for wear with a punctured tyre, leaving him a lap down on the field by the time the Briton finished his race.

The Brawn drivers Barrichello and Jensen Button finished sixth and fifth respectively, and it could be argued technical hitches by Brawn handed Webber the victory. A particularly long 11-second second pit stop for Barrichello on the 27th lap when his pit crew had problems with the fuelling rig delivered the lead to Webber, along with some confusion by Barrichello over how many stops he was supposed to make.

Webber is the first Australian to win a GP race since Alan Jones in 1981 and only the third ever behind Jones and Jack Brabham.

Among them: Private browsing, location-aware surfing, support for emerging HTML 5 standards such as plug-in-free video and audio playing, and better JavaScript performance. It’s that last improvement that’s most noteworthy since Mozilla claims that Firefox 3.5 is twice as fast as Firefox 3, and an astonishing 10 times faster than Firefox 2.0.

Nice features, all of them, and ones that certainly reflect the goal of Firefox’s creators at the Mozilla Foundation: To upgrade the Web. “What we’re actually trying to do,” Mozilla Chairman Mitchell Baker said at our D7 conference in May (see video highlights below), “…is improve the Web itself….Our main goal is to make more capabilities available, and right now, the browser is the main delivery mechanism….We’re trying to be the delivery mechanism upon which others build innovations.”

There is a special person who keeps caring, nourishing and giving people the strength to lead their normal life. Yes, undoubtedly a nurse does this grateful job in their daily life.

Everybody would definitely take a useful health tip and if it is from the nurse who would say a “no”. I have always developed a passion to read something that is interesting, informative and educational. Moreover, I have started reading the online magazine “Scrubs- nurse’s guide to good living” that shares with me all that I want. It is truly worth reading it.

Scrubs magazine is different from other clinical sites. The articles are so inspiring and warm. It uplifts one’s positive living. I must say, it is definitely a right site for everyone. The featured stories are very direct and original. In addition, it also categorizes every stages of nursing carrier such as student nurse, new nurse, seasoned/mentor nurse. There is something interesting for everybody in this site.

The “funny” thing that caught my eyes in this site was the scrubby award page. You can personalize a funny award for a special nurse in your life. My grandpa was a veteran nurse and he has always inspired me with his real stories that happened during his nursing carrier. I have always admired him for the passion he had towards his profession. He is the most caring and the best nurse I have ever seen. I wanted to give him this true award rather than the funny quote. Next interesting thing that I wanted to do in the site was to keep my thumb impression on the “nurse poll”. What Nurse TV Show Will You Be Watching? Was the question. My instant click was to “HawthoRNe on TNT”. It is one show that I always like to watch.

It is a show about a compassionate and headstrong Chief Nursing Officer who spend long days and nights on the hospital’s front lines. Hawthorne is the kind of nurse who fights for her patients and does not let them slip through the cracks. From the rating, I found that most of them liked this show.

There are lots to engage in this site. It is definitely a guiding hope to everyone.

Nursing is what everybody needs…

All that we need in our life is someone to care and nourish us. Nurses are person who give an extending hand to the needy and care them, to bring them back to their normal life. After hearing real stories that my grandpa use to tell me, I realized how noble the nursing profession is. It is truly a grateful job.

Catching up with sites that provide educational and inspirational information has always been my passion. “Scrubs- nurse’s guide to good living” is an online magazine that provides with such information that satisfies my requirements.

You can differentiate Scrubs magazine from other clinical site, from the way they provide their direct and original articles. The articles are so inspiring. I must say that everybody has some interesting information in this site, so do watch it. It also stages the different nursing carrier as student nurse, new nurse or seasoned/mentor nurse.

My grandpa was a veteran nurse and his passion towards his work has always inspired me. Chasing the Chargers’ 20-over total of 143 for five, the Royal Challengers closed at 137 for nine, one elusive strike away from pushing the title clash into the “Super Over.”The sheer delight on Adam Gilchrist’s face was matched for effect only by the supreme despair that burst through the grill of Anil Kumble’s helmet. Kumble won the personal battle between the skippers, cleaning up his opposite number with the third ball of the match, but didn’t quite get the same support from his team-mates as the Australian did.

Undone by the pressures of a run-chase, however modest, in a Cup final, the Challengers suffered a stunning collapse after having looked in control for much of the match. The Chargers’ modest total, built largely around a workmanlike unbeaten 53 by Herschelle Gibbs, was kept to manageable proportions thanks to another wonderful bowling display from Kumble, who finished with four for 16.

The Royal Challengers were well in control at 99 for four, requiring a further 44 in 36 deliveries, when Andrew Symonds got rid of Ross Taylor and Virat Kohli, the key hit-men, in the space of two deliveries to effectively finish off the final as a contest. Glory for the Deccan Chargers then, but hardly any disgrace for the boys from Bangalore. Bravo!

If hacking is about thinking outside the box, knowing what others have put into that box sounds like a good start. I fully believe that this course will make you a ‘certified ethical hacker’. For those still considering what career to go into, this might be a way to go. I mean, how cool would it be, to list down your occupation as a Professional Hacker? Cool!

Like most people I too got a wish, rather wishes. I have been planning so many things in the past few month to do this, do that, go there, see that. But what seems to materialize is my bick ride on the famous Karakoram Highway from China to Kunjrab. With that I wish to have CEIVA Digital Photo frame so that I would be able to send my photo directly to my family members in the United States and Britain through their phone.

Looking a few places online, I found that they they are offering to join their contest called "Got a wish sweeptakes" for this coming Christmas. I sure would have entered the contest with a hope that my wish will be granted because but I am not eligible. But maybe you like me for this coming Christmas? Who doesn’t have a wish? Know your eyes better

I live my life in a way that forces me to always try to be better than I was the day before. A better dad, better husband, better boss and a better person in general. Over the course of the day and in the evening, or just driving in the car I do a lot of personal self-reflection. I run through the events of the day and wonder if I could have handled certain situations differently. If they would have had a better outcome had I done X rather than it.This isn't an exercise in self-doubt, just self-evaluation. The goal is to always be learning from both my mistakes and my successes. One of the things I think is necessary for any person to truly succeed in life is that they must know their reason for being. Like every business should have a UVP (Unique Value Proposition), every person must have what I call a PUPIL, a Personal Unique Purpose In Life.

The pupil of the eye is what allows us to see. If our pupils become damaged we become blind and no longer able to see the world around us. We can still function, but in a different capacity. Similarly, if you don't know your Personal Unique Purpose In Life, you'll still be a functional member of society but you'll never see your full potential realized.Knowing your purpose can help you stay focused. Too often situations come up that make us want to just quit. And some people do. They quit their jobs, their marriages, their families, their friends, their employees and even their lives. But knowing your PUPIL helps you get through those rough times. It's being able to see the forest for the trees.

Knowing your true purpose in life can give you direction and determination like you've never known before. While you can sail through the small stuff you are also better able to realize when something is really just standing in the way of your success. That's when you know it's time to move to the next "stage" of your life. While scary, you're able to move on confidently knowing that the next step is the right one for you.

IPL or test cricket??

Everyone(read reporters) and their granmum(as Geoff Boycott) would say is crying themselves hoarse that the IPL is gonna kill or has killed the Test Cricket phenomenon. That Test Cricket is "the" form of the game to watch for - the "purest" form of the game. So on and so forth.

Firstly, I was as keen a observer of the Test Series between India-Aus as any. And I slept through the India-SA series with the same gusto. It was the competition level, and the level of cricket on offer that kept me glued to the websites, to the score cards, reports and write-ups. Nothing else. Most teams suck at Test Cricket - and most Test wickets SUCK. Those are the reasons Test Cricket will die. It hasnt yet died because of the phenomenal competition that the Aussies have brought to the table - which has spurred intense rivarly between them and India, and Aus-SA as well. Also, the pitches for most of these have been good pitches - for bat and ball. (except certain instances). Anywhere where its been only the bat or only the ball talking has been mighty boring. Except for statisticians. And that brings me to the IPL.

I'm not a big fan of the IPL. I dont like the city based league format, I rarely like a team that's not bound to geography - and the IPL teams are hardly bound to geography. Robin Uthappa plays for the Mumbai Indians team, Praveen Kumar plays for the Bangalore Royal Challengers, Dhoni plays for Chennai Super Kings etc., That's only the Indians who've gone across teams. Add in 4 foreign players per team, and where's the connect to geography? Nowhere.

Since I talked about cricket now its only fair that I talk about a bit about tennis.. Since we have players from India now who are making a mark for themselves..Starting with the eye catching,in vogue and high on style quotient Sania Mirza whos become quite the youth icon for the youngsters.The first Indian woman to be seeded in a grand slam and to have survived in the WTA rankings is quite inspiring but I always wonder if it’s a one off .. how many more girls,or boys too, are out there who play excellent tennis but don’t have an oppurtunity to advance…we seriously ought to take tips from russia on how the manage to churn out players like sharapova,kuznetsova,chakvetadze,petrova,youzhny to name a few .. but I hope sania doesn’t follow on the lines of kournikva.. if she does that is given some rumours of her joining bollywood dear lord…Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati deserve honorary mention for turning the worlds attention to Indian players when they won the wimbeldon doubles in 1999 ..While Sharapova is my favourite player in womens the indubitable favourite in the mens would have to be Roger Federer..The best thing about federer are his volleys and those on target aces .. While Nadal with his husky youthful vigour has a long way to go till he can achieve the temperament of the Champion on grass..

My F1 experience

When I heard that F1 grand Prix was coming to singapore, I was excited and I managed to convince my father to get the 3 day walkabout tix.

The passes were sent via mail in a nice black envalope (3 day walk about tickets - well it was the cheapest.) Couldn’t wait for the event, so that I could take out my cam and “try” to snap some shots. [ Also good time to practice my panning shots.

But to be honest, I don't really know anything about F1, maybe except the teams and the drivers that's all. Its just that I've been following for about 2 seasons now [Anyway Straits Times doesn't really cover much about it, just the winner of each race, the leading drivers and teams and maybe anything that goes wrong (accidents.), etc.]

RBI inflation target

The reserve Bank of India has not made any change in the repo rate.In his mid-year review of the Bank’s annual policy, Governor D. Subbarao said RBI’s endeavour would be to bring down the inflation to a “tolerable” 5%.

Highlights of the review:
• Bank Rate, Repo Rate and Reverse Repo Rate kept unchanged.
• The flexibility to conduct overnight repo or longer term repo including the right to accept or reject tender(s) under the LAF, wholly or partially, is retained.
• CRR kept unchanged at 6.5 per cent.
• GDP growth forecast for 2008-09 revised to a range of 7.5-8.0 per cent.
• Keeping in view the supply management measures taken by the Government and the lagged demand response to the monetary policy measures taken by the Reserve Bank, it has been decided to maintain the earlier projection of inflation of 7.0 per cent by end-March 2009 for policy purposes.
• It will be the Reserve Bank’s endeavour to bring down inflation to a tolerable level of below 5 per cent at the earliest, while aiming for convergence with the global average inflation of around 3.0 per cent over the medium-term.

Tendulkar to play in Aus Tests, says BCCI

Batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar will be available for India’s upcoming Test series against Australia despite racing against time to be fit, an official said on Monday.

Tendulkar, 35, opted out of a five-day trial match starting in Vadodara on Wednesday after being advised to take a week’s rest to recover from an elbow injury sustained during the recent Sri Lanka tour.

The news sent shockwaves across India, but cricket board secretary Niranjan Shah denied media reports that Tendulkar could miss the four-Test series against the world champions starting on October 9.

“The physiotherapist wants him to take another week off as a precautionary measure, but he will certainly be available for the Test matches,” Shah said.

Tendulkar will be replaced by Subramaniam Badrinath in the India squad that takes on Ranji Trophy champions Delhi in the five-day Irani Cup match in Vadodara.

The Indian squad for the first Test in Bangalore will be named after the match.

Tendulkar, a veteran of 150 Tests, needs 77 runs to overtake retired West Indian Brian Lara’s record tally of 11,953 runs and become Test cricket’s highest run-getter.

The Indian already has a record 39 Test and 42 One-day centuries and is also the world’s leading ODI batsman with 16,361 runs from 417 matches.

Tendulkar is hoping to make amends for a poor series in Sri Lanka, where his highest score was 31 in three Tests which the hosts won 2-1.

The world’s most senior cricketer, who made his Test debut in 1989, has been plagued by a spate of injuries in recent times and underwent corrective surgery on his left elbow in 2005.

Tendulkar injured the elbow again while attempting to take a catch in the third Test in Sri Lanka in August and missed the subsequent ODI series.
